The Punk Rock Therapist wants you to know you are not alone.

Free therapy sessions for survivors of predators within the music industry.

On July 19, 2023 Kristina shared her secret. After 13 years of shame + silence, Kristina had suddenly learned she was not the only victim of Justin “Sane” Geever, the singer of famously feminist punk band Anti-Flag, and knew she had to speak out. So, on episode 40 of enough, a podcast centered on sexual abuse in the music industry, she described how he violently assaulted her. Then, when hundreds of other survivors from around the world began contacting her, Kristina and her friend—former music executive and rock drummer, Samantha Maloney—knew they had to do something. True believers in both empowerment + community care, they created The Punk Rock Therapist to support the overwhelming number of women who came forward with their own stories of exploitation +  abuse at the hands of predators in the industry. TPRT now provides opportunities for healing with a therapist who has walked the same path: from victim to survivor to thriver.

Who is The Punk Rock Therapist?

TPRT is a grassroots group of women who have dedicated their time, resources, hearts + souls to supporting as many survivors as possible.

Kristina Sarhadi, TPRT’s co-founder and Chief Empowerment Officer, is a Holistic Psychotherapist, writer + social worker. A Hudson Valley, NY native, she is the founder of Kingston Reiki + Holistic Therapy in Downtown Kingston, where she works with clients to integrate deep trauma exploration with energy work and narrative reframing. Kristina received the International Health Leadership Award in 2011, is an ongoing provider at The O+ Festival’s Free Clinic, an active member of several mutual aid and wellness circles, and a published poet. She has received several awards for her writing and her work with clients, including Best Mental Health Counselor in 2023 for Chronogram Magazine’s Readers’ Choice Awards. Prior to opening her private practice, Kristina spent more than a decade in social services as a domestic violence counselor, foster care case manager, teen mentor, women’s legal advocate, Early Intervention specialist, youth arts group director, and crisis counselor for victims of abuse, neglect and sexual assault. Because Kristina has always been obsessed with balancing pain and joy, she has also taught preschool, run a cupcake shop, managed local bands, and written for several punk music publications. An Iranian-American, Kristina’s philosophy centers around self-empowerment, mindfulness techniques, and consciousness engineering. On rare days off she can be found reading in a sunspot with her tiny cat, Button, hiking a favorite trail in the Catskill Mountains, or attending a  punk show.
